Music is Back!!!!
" Race, class and ethnic tensions have existed in our neighborhood for decades. This is nothing new. It is critical to recognize this context as we seek to bring more voices into discussion around these issues and to resolve differences."

Checks may also be dropped off at Pfeiffer's Hardware
As many of you already know, 3145 Mt. Pleasant Street (also known as
the Winston) was partially destroyed by fire last night. The most
recent word is that donations of money, food and clothing (including
shoes, kids' clothing, winter wear, etc.) are needed for the over 800
people who have been either permanently or temporarily displaced,
many of them children and elderly .
Yasmin Romero is the president of the Tenants' Association at 3145
Mt. Pleasant Street, and she is a very active, much loved member and
organizer with Hear Mount Pleasant.
3145 is a highly organized
building of mostly immigrant residents. Our hearts go out to Yasmin
and all the tenants of this building and we will support their
efforts to make sure the building is renovated and that every single
one of the tenants is able to move back and stay together. Haydee's
and Don Juan's Restaurants served as shelters overnight for the
displaced.
We will continue to provide information, as it is updated, on other
ways that community members can support these families.
Message from Jim Graham
Dear Friends:
We have been on the scene of a five alarm fire at 3145 Mt Pleasant St, NW since 1am this morning.
Luckily no one was injured.
The fire department's response was great and the water pressure was superb.
This horrendous fire affected six buildings including the Meridian Hill Baptist Church. About 200 people have been displaced. Metro buses were brought in to keep people warm before moving everyone to the Columbia Heights Community Center at 15th and Girard St, NW. We have been working with the residents all morning to attend to their human needs.
Low-income residents were the highest affected.
Neighbors' Consejo is taking food and clothing donations at 3118 16th St, NW. Please consider making a donation. You can reach Evar Sandoval at (202) 234-6855 for more details.
Bests, Councilmember Jim Graham
